Why hips hold so many practitioners back

If you have practised yoga for a while, you probably know the moment. The posture is clear in your mind, your breathing is calm and your attention is steady, but your hips simply do not go where the pose asks them to. Seated postures with crossed legs feel like a negotiation with your own body, and progress seems to stall.

Hip mobility rarely improves from an occasional stretch. It responds to regular, well-sequenced work in which the whole body supports the hips instead of the hips being forced open on their own. That is hard to organise by yourself. Most people either push too hard, or avoid the difficult poses altogether and never change.

This course is a set of nine complete practices built around that idea. Each lesson is a whole session, not an isolated stretching drill, and each one places a quiet, unforced emphasis on the hip joints. You get a structure to lean on, so you do not have to invent a plan from scratch every time you unroll your mat.

The practices are of intermediate to moderately demanding difficulty. Every demanding pose comes with a simple, accessible alternative, so you can work at the level that suits you today and move forward when you are ready.

What you will be able to do

The course is aimed at noticeable progress in how your hips work after nine lessons, provided you practise regularly.

  • Follow a complete one-hour practice with confidence

Each lesson is a whole, balanced session you can do on your own at home.

  • Work your hips as part of the whole body

Learn how support from the legs, pelvis and spine makes hip work safer and more effective.

  • Choose the right version of a demanding pose

Every difficult posture is accompanied by a simple alternative, so you can adjust it to your day.

  • Build a steady rhythm of at least two practices a week

Use the suggested schedule to turn occasional practice into a habit that produces results.

  • Notice and refine how you move

Develop the habit of observing your hips during a pose rather than pushing through it.

  • Combine movement, breath and attention

The practices connect dynamic work and held forms with a focus on calm, even breathing.

  • Return to the lessons as your range grows

Repeat the practices over six months and feel how the same lesson changes as you do.

  • Approach seated postures with more ease

Prepare the body step by step for cross-legged and lotus-style sitting.

The approach: harmonious, whole-body practice

The lessons follow a simple principle: the hips improve most when they are included in a balanced, integrated practice. Instead of pulling one area to its limit, each session works through the whole body, with an unobtrusive emphasis on the hip joints that accumulates from lesson to lesson.

Because the series is built to be done in order, the early lessons prepare you for the later ones. You will notice that what felt awkward at the start becomes more familiar by the middle of the series, and that the later sessions ask a little more of you in a way that feels natural rather than abrupt.

Difficult poses are never presented as all-or-nothing. Each comes with a straightforward alternative that is available to you right away, which makes the programme practical for people who are strong in some areas and stiff in others.

How the course works

The course consists of nine recorded video lessons of about 60 minutes each. You can start as soon as your payment is confirmed. Every lesson is a full practice, so you only need a mat, a quiet corner and an hour of your time.

Some people like to move to a timetable, so the course offers a suggested schedule you can lean on. If you prefer, you can ignore it and go at your own pace. What matters is regularity: the programme assumes at least two practices per week, because that is the frequency at which progress in the hips becomes noticeable.

You have access to the lessons for six months from purchase. That is enough time to go through the whole series once at a relaxed pace and to return to the sessions you liked best. Take the sessions in order the first time, and feel free to repeat any practice afterwards.

Is this course for you?

This course is for you if…

  • You already have some yoga experience and want a structured set of intermediate-level practices.
  • You want your hips to feel more open and capable, and you are ready to practise at least twice a week.
  • You like full one-hour sessions that combine movement, breathing and attention.
  • You prefer to follow a suggested plan but want the freedom to change the pace.
  • You are comfortable choosing a simpler version of a pose when your body asks for it.

Probably not a fit if…

  • You have never done any yoga and want a purely introductory class.
  • You are looking for a quick fix and cannot commit to a couple of practices a week.
  • You want short sessions of ten or fifteen minutes only.
  • You are looking for medical advice or treatment of a specific condition; this is a general practice course.

After the course

After nine lessons you will have spent nine hours working steadily on how your hips move, in a way that is consistent rather than occasional. If you have followed the suggestion of practising at least twice a week, the aim is a noticeable improvement in how your hip joints work.

Beyond the physical change, you will have a clearer sense of how to organise your own practice: how to choose a version of a pose, how to give the hips support from the rest of the body, and how to stay attentive instead of forcing a shape.

You will still have access to the lessons for the remainder of your six months, so you can repeat the sessions that worked best for you and notice how the same practice feels as your range grows.
