Learning what school never taught you

Many adults feel they missed something at school. Art lessons were short, old-fashioned and mostly about copying. Then you walk into a gallery, see a performance or a media installation, and realise you have no idea how to read what is in front of you.

This programme exists for exactly that gap. It treats contemporary art as a living field with its own vocabulary, methods and tools, and it assumes you are an intelligent adult who is simply new to it. You do not need to spend years in an art college to start making sense of it.

The course also has a practical side. Alongside the ideas, you work with the basics of digital graphics and painting, so you are not only watching and reading but also making something yourself.

Whether you work in a creative profession and want to widen your range, or you have never studied art and simply want to try something new, the lessons start from the fundamentals and build step by step.

What you will be able to do

  • Explain what performance art is

You will recognise its forms and understand why artists choose it.

  • Tell postmodern, metamodern and culture 3.0 apart

You will use these terms with confidence instead of guessing.

  • Describe how art objects and media installations are made

From the idea through to the finished work.

  • Read science art and future-oriented projects

You will see how artists work with technology and research.

  • Use the basics of digital graphics

You will complete first exercises in a digital workflow.

  • Apply the basics of painting

You will practise composition, colour and expression.

  • Build a small portfolio piece

You will finish the course with a project you made yourself.

  • Talk about art with more confidence

You will be able to discuss what you see and give reasons for your opinion.

A programme built around making, not just watching

Art is easy to admire and hard to understand from the outside. The lessons therefore keep returning to one question: how was this made, and why? Understanding the decisions behind a work is the quickest way to start making decisions of your own.

Each module pairs a short block of ideas with a task. The ideas give you the language and the context. The task gives you a chance to try them on your own material, at your own speed, without anyone watching over your shoulder.

You do not need a studio or expensive equipment. A computer or tablet, a few basic art supplies and some curiosity are enough to follow the practical work.

How the course works

The lessons are recorded, so you can watch them whenever it suits you and replay any part as many times as you like. This works well for people who combine learning with a job, studies or family life.

Each lesson includes a practical task. You complete it and attach the result to your answer in the lesson. The tasks matter: finishing one is what unlocks the next lesson, so you move forward with real work behind you rather than just clicking through videos.

If something is unclear, you can ask the teacher in the comments under the lesson. Submitted tasks are reviewed, and you receive comments on what to improve. The programme also includes webinars with the teacher, where projects are discussed live.

After the course

When you finish, a gallery visit or an exhibition review will look different. You will know the terms, recognise the techniques and be able to say why a piece works or does not.

You will also have made things yourself: digital studies, a few paintings and one finished project. These are modest but real steps, and they give you something concrete to build on.

Many learners use this as a first step before choosing a more focused direction, such as digital art, design or creative project work. The course helps you find out what you enjoy before you commit more time to it.
